WESTMINSTER, Md. – The McDaniel Green Terror Women’s Basketball team lost what would be their final game of the 2015-2016 campaign on Wednesday night in their ECAC first round matchup against Waynesburg 78-73.
The No. 7 Yellow Jackets upset the No. 2 Green Terror with a late third and fourth quarter comeback to advance to the South Final in this year’s ECAC tournament against Stevenson on Saturday.
McDaniel (21-7) found themselves with an early lead thanks to senior and repeat Centennial Conference Player of the Year Lindsey Nichols who scored 27 points, shooting 5-for-13 and 11-for-26 on 3s and field goals respectively.
Terror junior Karli Zeps led the team with 15 rebounds and added on 21 points of her own, shooting 8-for-15 on field goals.
McDaniel shot 26-for-68 on field goals, a mark of 38.2 percent. Waynesburg put up 28-for-56 numbers, a 50 percent rate. The difference in field goal success was an obvious factor in the game’s outcome.
Free throws and 3s were much more even. The Jackets shot 14-for-21, 66.7 percent, on free throws and 8-for-20, 40 percent, on 3s. The Terror shot 15-for-23 on free throws and 6-for-18 on 3s, marks of 65.2 percent and 33.3 percent, respectively.
The defensive team that they are, McDaniel was able to force 21 Waynesburg turnovers, capitalizing on them for 24 points. The Terror turned the ball over 12 times, leading to as may points for the Jackets.
Their final game of the season, McDaniel finishes with a 21-7 overall record, placing second in the Centennial Conference with a 15-3 record.
